1949 Magic-Beano Book

The Magic and Beano comics combined their characters for a seventh year in a row, even though the regular Magic comic had ceased publication during the War in 1941.

Swanky Lanky Liz

Liz makes her first annual appearance in this comic strip. Her solo career was short-lived, as she became a part of Lord Snooty’s gang the following year, in 1950.

Maxy’s Taxi

This is one of the first appearances of Maxy’s Taxi in the Beano annuals – the pre-war style of the taxi contrasts sharply with what was to come in the next exciting decade.
