Archive: Beano Annual 1944 – The Second Magic-Beano Book
Take a peek inside the final wartime annual, filled with classic comic strips and adventure stories!
1944 Magic-Beano Book
For the second year in a row, the Magic and Beano comics combined their characters due to paper rationing during WWII.

Funny Formats
Older annuals sometimes featured strange layouts for their pages, like this vertical double-page Lord Snooty strip. A two-coloured double page like this would have been a noticeable contrast to the black ink of the weekly comic.

Comics always had an appeal with younger children who couldn’t yet read. You don’t need to read the bottom paragraph to get a laugh out of Koko getting his own back.
