Owning an Abyssinian Trip Hound can be a lot of work, but this handy listicle will help you make the most of your hairy hound! 

Reward Good behaviour

Tripe Hounds need rewards when they do well. We suggest sausages. Lots and lots of sausages. And then more sausages.

Discipline is key

Tripe hounds  can get very cocky if they’re not kept in line with a stern finger wag. Practise it in the mirror to make sure you’ve really got the expression down. 

Sausages, sausages and more sausages

Did we mention sausages? They are a key part of a tripe hound’s diet and provide all the nutrients they need, including vitamins A, X and M. 

Keeping your hound groomed

Tripe hounds have a typically shaggy fur which can be difficult to maintain. We suggest a vigorous bath once a year to get all the fleas out! Your dog may not enjoy it, so tempt him in with some sausages and then lock the door and run away. Fast. 

Keep it in the family

Tripe hounds are naturally friendly and love being around their own kind. Gnasher and Gnipper love nothing more than hanging out, so get together with your fellow trip hound owning friends and spend a day in the park, chasing squirrels and gnawing trees. And your dogs will have fun too!

Personal toilets

We cannot stress enough that a tripe hound needs it’s OWN bathroom. You don’t want to know what happens when they have to share. 

Tripe is a sometimes treat

As the name suggests, the tripe hound is good at hunting tripe. Tripe live in the Abyssinian mountains, and the tripe hound is the only dog with a keen enough sense of smell to sniff them out. However, that doesn’t mean a tripe hound should eat tripe all the time. It’s a rich food, and Gnasher only gets in a few times a year. So be careful!

Keep his teeth strong

Tripe hounds are famous for their strong teeth. As well as lots of bones to gnaw, they need shiny, freshly brushed teeth at all times. Just make sure they don’t eat the brush when you’re brushing their teeth! It’s been known to happen. 

Practise tricks

Tripe hounds learn fast and can do all sorts of tricks if you put the time and effort into training them. They can balance fish on their noses, tap dance and even skateboard! But it takes discipline! 

Don’t work him too hard

Tripe hounds are loyal dogs but they need time to relax, so make sure your hound gets some down time and a belly rub.
