Archive: Beano Annual 1954

Take a peek inside this 1950’s annual, filled with classic comic strips and adventure stories!

1954 Beano Annual

Lord Snooty and his Pals

Lord Snooty is one of a few characters to have appearances in both comic strips and picture stories. Page one of this strip contains a small printing mark, “K” at the bottom of page, to denote the binding order of the book’s pages.

Kat and Kanary

Where America had Tom and Jerry, we had Kat and Kanary! This is their first appearance in a nearly decade-long run through the 50’s. Like most pages, these small detailed panels would have been drawn at A3 size and shrunk down for the printed page.

Red Rory of the Eagles

Not all of Beano’s younger characters lived in the present day. Adventure stories had a tendency to look back to the days of pirates and soldiers to tell their stories.
